Liverpool’s loss 3/1 to get the better of Messi and co next term

Published:

The ‘love affair’ between Luis Suarez and the Premier League has officially run its course, with Liverpool finally giving up on one of the world’s best by accepting a bid, reported to be £75m, from Barcelona.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has piped up on liverpoolfc.com, stating:

“The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool.

It is with great reluctance and following lengthy discussions we have eventually agreed to his wishes to move to Spain for new experiences and challenges.

We wish him and his young family well; we will always consider them to be friends.”

Ladbrokes.com reacted immediately with their own press release regarding how well the Uruguayan will perform during his first term in La Liga, with Suarez available at 3/1 to outscore all around him at the Camp Nou during 2014/15.

The 26-year-old is 12/1 to win La Liga’s Golden Boot and 20/1 to be top scorer in the Champions League, but the eye-catching wager that will be of interest to many is the 16/1 about Suarez coming back to bite his old Reds colleagues by firing against them in the continent’s premier competition.

However, new teammate Lionel Messi is the favourite in a season-long goals matchbet at 1/4, with Suarez 11/4 to upstage the four-time Ballon d’Or winning World Cup finalist in the striking stakes.

Barca’s record outlay wasn’t enough to move them into favouritism for next year’s Spanish title, with Champions League holders Real Madrid still odds-on at 4/5 ahead of Luis Enrique’s 23/20 charges – who ended 2013/14 potless – and defending champions Atletico Madrid at 7/1.
