Liverpool to splash Suarez cash with double raid on Swansea

While much of the media attention is focused on who might be heading out the exit door at Anfield, Liverpool are stepping up their recruitment drive by reviving their interest in Swansea City’s Ben Davies.

Luis Suarez’s £70m projected move to Barcelona looks set to be completed over the weekend and the Reds are not wasting any time in splashing the cash with Brendan Rodgers targeting a raid on his former club.

Davies has emerged as a realistic target for the Merseyside club to fill the problematic left-back spot and after making initial enquires Liverpool believe they can land their man with a bid in the region of £10m.

Tottenham are also interested in the Welsh international and are prepared to meet Swansea’s asking price after having their bid of Gylfi Sigurdsson in exchange for Davies and goalkeeper Michel Vorm rejected.

But despite the north Londoners’ interest Rodgers is confident of bringing the player from his former club to Anfield.

The 21-year-old is not the only Swans star Liverpool are targeting with reports suggesting Wilfried Bony is back on the Merseyside club’s shopping list.

Rodgers, whose side is 15/2 to win the Premier League, has already brought England international Rickie Lambert to the club this summer but in the absence of Luis Suarez the Northern Irishman is looking to add more firepower to his squad.

Belgium striker Divock Origi was at Liverpool’s Melwood training complex on Wednesday as they look to tie up a deal but Bony would add proven Premier League goal scoring form to the Reds squad.

The 25-year-old fired 16 goals in 34 appearances during his first season at the Liberty Stadium and if Liverpool could manage to prise him away from the Welsh club he would help fill the Suarez void alongside Daniel Sturridge and Lambert.

Swansea appear to be thinking of life without the Ivory Coast international after Garry Monk completed a deal to sign Watford striker Troy Deeney but only a bid in the region of £20m would tempt them to part company with Bony.

Liverpool, who have signed former Southampton stars Adam Lallana and Lambert, face the Saints on the opening day of the season and are 2/5 to take all three points.
