Liverpool should chase Colombia star if Suarez seals Barca move

Published:

It appears that both Liverpool and Barcelona are singing off the same hymn sheet over a deal to take Luis Suarez to the Camp Nou, with the Spanish club reportedly willing to meet the Uruguayan’s release clause.

That’s a figure believed to be in the region of £75m though both parties preference is to see Barca forward Alexis Sanchez go the other way in a cash-plus-player deal.

Talks are ongoing between Sanchez and his agent, though reports have also surfaced in recent days that the Chilean prefers a move to Arsenal over Anfield.

It remains to be seen how negotiations turn out, but if Chile’s World Cup star cannot be persuaded to play cricket then it looks like Liverpool will be left with a huge wedge of cash instead.

While it’s essential that last season’s runners-up – who are already fourth in the Premier League title betting at 15/2 – spend the wonga wisely, there’s another world class replacement worth pursuing.

Although Radamel Falcao was forced out of the World Cup due to a knee injury, it was only last month at the beginning of the finals his current club Monaco made noises that he could become available.

The likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid were immediately thrown into the frame, having both made overtures about signing the former Atletico Madrid player before Monaco stole a march.

However, the Blues are 99 percent certain to capture Diego Costa as their main striker for the forthcoming season, while Los Blancos have set sights on Falcoa’s club-mate and countryman James Rodriguez instead.

Before Suarez’s latest ban, Liverpool weren’t in the market for another world class striker, but armed with £75m in their sky-rocket, the Reds could easily shell out the £50m for Falcao and still buy a top-calibre left-back.
