Leading World Cup light prefers Man Utd move over London duo

Manchester United’s revolution under Louis van Gaal is already well underway and the Dutchman hasn’t even set foot in his new office yet.

The Old Trafford club have already sealed deals for Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, but have been handed a huge boost in the race for one of the World Cup’s leading performers.

Chile’s Arturo Vidal didn’t arrive in Brazil in peak physical condition having suffered a knee injury before the finals, but was still instrumental in his side’s shock win over Spain and trip to the last 16, where they lost on penalties to Brazil.

The rampaging midfielder had already been firmly placed on the radar of a host of clubs during his time with Juventus, where he’s racked up three straight league titles, but has seen the number of rumours over his future sky-rocket following this summer’s tournament.

Links with Man United, who are 11/2 to win the Premier League this season, became customary long ago but Arsenal and Chelsea have both entered the race for the 27-year-old.

Thankfully for Van Gaal, though, Vidal is reported to prefer a move to the Red Devils over either of their two London rivals and sealing his signature would be a serious feather in the cap of the Dutchman, who is 9/2 to guide his country to World Cup glory.

Sir Alex Ferguson had long earmarked central midfield as United’s weak spot, while David Moyes tried and failed to replenish that area of the field in his brief tenure at the Carrington helm.

So if the former Bayern Munich boss can land one of the best midfielders in the world despite not having the carrot of European football to dangle, then there’ll be more than a few Ladbrokes customers lumping on their odds to win another Premier League title.
