Kvitova to go distance and Halep to win in Wimbledon semis bets

Published:

Then there were four. It’s women’s semi-finals day at Wimbledon as former champion and current favourite Petra Kvitova takes on fellow Czech Lucie Safarova, while in the other half of the draw rising star Eugenie Bouchard stands in the way of third-seed Simona Halep.

As is customary here at news.Ladbrokes we’ve studiously weighed up the stats and other external factors to offer you the best bets of these clashes:

Lucie Safarova (2/1) v Petra Kvitova (2/5) – (13:00)

Kvitova to win 2-1 @ 3/1

2011 champion Kvitova should prevail against her compatriot whom she leads 5-0 in career meetings to date, especially on her favourite surface and particularly as 27-year-old Safarova’s best previous run at this Grand Slam ended at the second round.

However, as was the case when the pair met at Eastbourne on grass prior to SW19 and in 2/4 of their most recent meetings – all in 2014 – Safarova at least took a set.

Will there be a tiebreak in the match – yes @ 5/2

As mentioned before, these lefties have made a habit of bumping into each other this season, meeting four times already across three different surfaces.

In three quarters of those matches a single tiebreak has occurred in each, including their most recent duel on the lawns of Eastbourne.

Eugenie Bouchard (5/4) v Simona Halep (8/13) – (14:15)

Halep to win @ 8/13

These young women are both enjoying meteoric rises in the game and both have played phenomenal tennis at SW19 to set up only their second meeting – though it promises to be their second of many.

It really is a difficult one to call, but we’re siding with the third seed over the slightly less experienced 13th seed here.

Halep will be spurred on by losing the recent French Open final and it feels like her time to win a major is just ahead of her Canadian opponent’s.

Total sets – Exactly 3 @ 11/8

When the pair met on the hard courts of Indian Wells just a few months ago the match went the distance with the Romanian shading it 6-4 in the third set.

Therefore, this feels like a great covering bet, away from the match odds, that the girls fight it out all the way for a spot in Saturday’s showpiece.
