Holland’s £20m ace could choose between Tottenham and Liverpool

Back in 1998 Holland star Dennis Bergkamp garnered global football acclaim for his once-in-a-lifetime goal for the Oranje against Argentina at the World Cup.

While the instant control, perfect touch through the legs of Roberto Ayala and finish make it a goal worth watching again and again, many often forget the sensational cross-field pass made by Frank de Boer to set up the strike.

Fast forward 16 years and the Dutch were at it again on the world stage with Robin van Persie scoring with an acrobatic diving lob header that will warrant similar repeat viewings.

But yet again the part-architect of the wondergoal, Daley Blind, has gone largely unnoticed by football fans, though the same certainly can’t be said when it comes to Premier League clubs with several sides already linked with a movefor the Dutchman.

And in a strange twist of fate the man who set up Bergkamp’s goal, De Boer, could be the one who oversees Blind’s departure from Ajax, with the midfielder likely to depart the Eredivisie after the World Cup.

The 24-year-old faces a difficult decision on his future though, with two Premier League teams leading the race to recruit the Oranje hero.

On the one hand, Liverpool are rumoured to be keen on recruiting the Dutchman with the Reds able to offer Blind Champions League football and the prospect of competing for top honours in the Premier League.

However, a move to Tottenham could be similarly tempting, with Spurs long-time admirers of the Ajax star.

A transfer to the White Hart Lane side would allow Blind to link up with former teammate Christian Eriksen while also allowing him to play under Mauricio Pochettino – a manager who has garnered praise for his man-management skills.

And with Tottenham pushing for a top four finish, a move to the Lilywhites could ultimately lead to more European football, with the club likely to offer a superior financial package when it comes to wages and bonuses.

Alternatively Blind could opt for a move away from the Premier League altogether with Borussia Dortmund also in the mix to land the 24-year-old.

All eyes may be on the likes of Arjen Robben and RVP against Argentina, but a fair few will also be on Blind, who will be out to go one better than De Boer and help Holland reach the World Cup final.
