Expect a recalled Finn to clean up in Old Trafford fourth Test

Published:

So many of the England cricket team’s senior players have exited stage right or left in the recent past, the wings are almost too chock full to take any more.

It would have been a genuine relief to the ECB that Alastair Cook, Ian Bell, Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad all performed heartily at the Rose Bowl in the third Test against India.

Even more pleasing is Anderson’s clearance for the scuffle he had with Ravindra Jadeja at Trent Bridge, leaving England free to build on the momentum they gained from their 266-run win on the south Coast.

Here’s the best three bets for the fourth Test at Old Trafford:

Steven Finn to be England’s top 1st innings wicket taker @ 3/1

Will he even play? We hear you cry.

Well considering Liam Plunkett was recalled into the side at the start of the summer on the back of bowling express pace for his county, it’s likely the reformed Middlesex quick can get the nod on the same basis.

Finn took a five-for last time he bowled for England at Old Trafford and has been slinging the ball down with the confidence of his promising youth of late.

Gary Ballance to score a 1st innings 50 @ 7/4

The Yorkshire man has played in all five Test matches for England this summer and has only failed to pass 50 in one of those first dig knocks.

His scores in the first innings this summer read 23, 74, 71, 110 and 156.

England to win @ 13/8

England are unbeaten in eight Test matches at Old Trafford, a run that dates back to their defeat to Pakistan in 2001.

Six of those eight games were won, while India have visited the Manchester ground eight times in their history and have never ever claimed a victory.
