Everton switch makes Lukaku great pick for Golden Boot

Everton fans will be licking their lips as Chelsea supporters scratch their heads after seeing Romelu Lukaku move to Goodison Park.

Chelsea have allowed the 21-year-old striker to leave Stamford Bridge in order to accommodate the return of the aging Didier Drogba and the odds suggest the Belgian will flourish as a Toffee.

A glance at the stats tells you that Lukaku has more league goals by the age of 21 than a host of world class names – Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi to name a few – and Ladbrokes has instantly installed the forward’s goal line at 14.5 for the season ahead.

Odds of 10/11 for a haul either side of that line have been made available by the bookmaker and with the striker bagging 17 for West Brom and 16 for Everton while on loan it looks a safe bet to back over 14.5 this time round.

Those hoping Lukaku rubs Chelsea’s nose in it by out-firing his Premier League rivals can get 20/1 about the Everton newboy being crowned top scorer by the end of the campaign.

Ladbrokes’ Alex Donohue feels Everton have bagged a player of real quality and suggests Goodison Park could be housing some new silverware in the near future.

“We expect Lukaku to be just as prolific as last time and he’s sure to be a popular each-way bet for the Golden Boot,” he said.

“If he does start to fire, the odds of Everton having a successful season will definitely shorten.”

The Toffees can now be backed at 11/10 to secure European football with a top six finish, while it’s 4/1 that they go one better and land a place among the top four.

Those fancying a cup run, however, could be tempted by the 7/1 that says Roberto Martinez’s men lift a trophy of any kind during the 2014-15 season.
