New Cleveland QB tops our list of 3 NFL rookies to watch
As each NFL team begins their training camps a raft of rookies try to earn themselves a leading role on their franchise’s squad.
Some are better placed than others. Here’s the top three:
Johnny Manziel – Cleveland Browns
In a year when LeBron James has returned home, Cleveland could be a fun sports city to watch this year thanks to Manziel’s arrival on the Browns as the 22nd pick.
An inventive quarterback, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner was a whirlwind in college as he rushed for 2,169 yards in his two seasons at Texas A&M.
The 21-year-old party-lover is 9/1 to win the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year award and with highlights like these, stands a good chance:
Jadeveon Clowney – Houston Texans
Pre-draft buzz dulled a little on the eventual number one pick after his final collegiate season produced just 40 tackles and three sacks, compared to the 54 and 13 he managed the year before.
Turns out Clowney played that last campaign with a sports hernia, showing just how talented and determined he is .
If hits like the one below are anything to go by, his 4/1 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year favouritism is wholly justified.
Eric Ebron – Detroit Lions
Even though the Lions have Brandon Pettigrew and Joe Fauria at tight end, they still plumped for Ebron with their 10th pick in the draft.
In an offense full of receiving weapons, Ebron – who broke the single-season record for tight end receiving yards in college’s Atlantic Coast Conference last year – could be the breakthrough rookie of the season.
His speed and frame have drawn comparisons with New Orleans Saints’ Jimmy Graham, the best tight end in the game, and 14/1 looks big on his chances of being the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.
