Cash in on Arjen Robben’s World Cup diving antics
Arjen Robben is the talk of the World Cup after his diving antics earned Holland a quarter-final berth against Chile.
Holland were on course for extra time and possibly penalties after Wesley Snjieder had cancelled out Giovanni dos Santos’ opener in the Oranje’s second-round clash with El Tri.
The rest is history with the world now debating if Robben’s blatant dive for what proved to be the decisive penalty is as bad as Luis Suarez’s bite on Giorgio Chiellini!
The answer is of course that it isn’t – conning the referee on the world stage is not the right example to set but biting another human being in front of the world’s children is something else!
Robben is adamant that he did not dive for the spot-kick that was so excellently dispatched by Klaas Jan Huntelaar but has apologised for taking a tumble earlier in the match.
As such, the refereeing spotlight will be firmly shone on the Bayern Munich winger when Holland face Costa Rica later this week.
Many believe that Robben will have learned his lesson but with the Dutchman diving more times in that one match than Suarez has bitten people in his whole career, some punters aren’t so sure.
And it is the latter group that will be tempted by the special market Ladbrokes has made available for the game which sees Robben winning a penalty as an incident priced at 14/1!
Given his pace in and around the box the Dutchman is always a candidate to win a legitimate penalty, and with his penchant for theatrics well documented on both of the international and domestic scene, that looks too good a price to ignore.
Regardless of whether or not Robben is awarded a penalty, the Dutch are fancied to progress and accordingly priced at 1/2 to win the match.
