It’s a sign of just how uncompetitive a league the Scottish Premiership has become that, at the time of writing, Celtic were already priced at 1/40 to win the title before a ball has even been kicked.

But fear not football betting fans because Ladbrokes is ready with its now-familiar betting without Celtic market, which presents punters with the opportunity to imagine who would win the league if the Bhoys did actually make the trip south of the border to play in England.

Having analysed the data and the various thrashings handed out by the Hoops to those around them Ladbrokes News has narrowed it down to three ‘contenders’.

Aberdeen @ 7/4

The Dons were on course for a runners-up finish last term until a late capitulation saw them win one of their last five, surrendering second-place on the final day of the season with a 1-0 loss to Motherwell.

Aberdeen are nevertheless priced as favourites in the betting without Celtic market having strengthened their defence with the recruitment of Tranmere youngster Ash Taylor as well as Cheltenham goalkeeper Scott Brown. The arrival of Blackburn flop David  Goodwillie could be the biggest coup though with the 25-year-old previously proving prolific for Dundee United.

Motherwell @ 10/3

‘Well were lucky to take second last term but nevertheless go into the new campaign aiming to win the betting without Celtic market for a third consecutive season.

They could have their work cut out for them though following a quiet summer in the transfer market so far though Motherwell succeeded in making winger Lionel Ainsworth’s switch from Rotherham a permanent one following 11 goals in 29 top-flight games. The departure of James McFadden is a big loss though and it will be interesting to see how Stuart McCall copes

Dundee United @ 7/2

Runners-up in the Scottish Cup last season, United’s impressive group of young stars makes them dark horses for second spot, despite Ryan Gauld’s high profile exit to Sporting Lisbon.

The attacking midfielder will be missed but the Terrors have a talented squad that includes promising young defenders in the form of Andrew Robertson and John Souttar as well as Nadir Ciftci – a striker with the potential to make the step up to the big time with United. If a few more of the youngsters can impress then they could be real contenders.
