World Cup Diary: Ladbrokes customer scoops £18K from £2 stake

Published:

In my previous edition I mentioned how despite England’s disastrous World Cup campaign there was at least some good news for one lucky Ladbrokes customer.

And having confirmed the news with the powers that be back home, it turns out that the gentleman in question is now £18,879.96 richer after landing an epic accumulator.

Having seen each of his previous five selections come in, Kevin Walker (backed by a large following on Twitter) waited to see if France would beat Switzerland with both teams to score.

Here’s the story of how one man’s audacious Result Rush coupon well and truly bashed the bookies.

Ouch!

Friday – Part II

15:00 – Browsing Twitter while waiting for the France v Switzerland game to start and something catches my eye – a picture of a Ladbrokes betting slip is doing the rounds and it looks like one lucky punter is on the verge of scooping £18k from a £2 stake if France beat Switzerland with both teams scoring in the game.

15:45 – As expected quite a few people are getting behind the owner of said slip and it looks like half of the bet is in as France storm to a 3-0 lead at half-time. Kevin has already tweeted:

16:36 – I doubt Kevin will ever forget this time and moment on 20 June 2014. Switzerland don’t give up and at 5-0 down, Blerim Dzemali gets the most important consolation goal in the history of football. The bet’s a winner, Twitter erupts and Kevin can start spending the cash.

16:43 – As if they needed to make sure, the Swiss get a second. Providing they don’t bag another three in the remaining three minutes (5000/1 to do so) we’re still good.

16:48 – The referee blows the whistle and the it’s time for us to open the safe. Thankfully there’s a few quid in there following England’s sorry performance in Sao Paulo! We were even backing Kevin all the way…

And finally, let’s take a moment to marvel at the winning betting slip in question!

Well done Kevin!
