T20 Blast: Surrey’s superstars expected to down Hampshire

Published:

After another Test match series slipped through England’s grasp recently, it’s easy to forgive cricket fans for wanting to give their bat and ball viewing schedule a rethink for a while.

Luckily for them, there’s next to no England players involved in the T20 Blast competition, with the no-hopers representing the Three Lions replaced with stars of real quality from overseas.

Of the eight matches slated to kick off the weekend, we’ve scoured the form to find the three sides most likely to pick up a victory and explained our reasons below:

Warwickshire to beat Derbyshire @ 4/9

Thanks to a firing top-order (three of the top four are averaging over 25 with a strike-rate north of 110) and a potent bowling attack consisting of Boyd Rankin and Chris Wright’s pace and Jeevan Patel’s spin, Warwickshire sit third in the north division.

At the opposite end of the scale are Derbyshire, are winless from seven games so far.

Surrey to beat Hampshire @ 1/1

A stake as thin as a supermodel separates these two both in form and the standings, with the pair both winning their last two matches and sitting four points apart in the south division.

It’s the Rose Bowl outfit who hold the advantage in the table, but the Kia Oval side that’s picked to prevail in the match.

A side packed full of T20 specialists like Tillakaratne Dilshan, Azhar Mahmood, Kevin O’Brien and Robin Peterson along with a little-known Englishman named Kevin Pietersen are hard to ignore.

Sussex to beat Middlesex @ 4/6

Middlesex christened the T20 Blast by playing twice in one day at Lord’s, losing both matches. Immediately off to a dour start, the Panthers’ form hasn’t ever recovered and they’ve won just one match since.

They face Sussex, whose own form has stalled after a bright start, one day after facing Gloucestershire away and the lack of rest time is sure to hinder the London club.
