Sherwood supported in Ladbrokes’ Next West Brom Manager market

Published:

Speculation is rife that Tim Sherwood could be about to become the next West Bromwich Albion manager after Ladbrokes took a number of bets on him taking over at the Hawthorns.

The former England international opened at odds of 14/1 back in May but is now just 6/1 with the bookmaker after a steady stream of punts.

The 45-year-old held an impressive record – the highest win percentage for a Spurs manager in the Premier League era – in his five month spell at White Hart Lane and is thought to be high on the wishlist of the Midlands club following the departure of Pepe Mel.

This news comes after former Swansea boss Michael Laudrup dealt a blow to both the Baggies and Southampton by insisting he would only return to management if an offer came in from a big club.

The Danish manager is still available at odds of 25/1 to take over at the Hawthorns but Sherwood’s man rivals for the job look to be Real Madrid coach Paul Clement and former Norwich manager Chris Hughton.

After helping Carlo Ancelotti guide Real Madrid to a 10th European Cup success, Clement is open to taking on a managerial role and with links to the club – his brother Neil was a West Brom player for 10 years – the former Chelsea assistant boss could be an ideal fit.

The 42-year-old is the 4/1 favourite for the job but could face competition from Chris Hughton for the role.

Hughton, who is 5/1 for the job with Ladbrokes, was close to becoming West Brom manager back in 2012 only for Steve Clarke to be given the opportunity.

But with WBA chairman Jeremy Peace an admirer of the former Birmingham and Newcastle boss he could still rival both Clement and Sherwood for West Brom hotseat.

Former Celtic and Manchester United managers’ Neil Lennon and David Moyes are other names that have been linked with taking over from Mel and both are on at 10/1 with the bookie.
