Another US raider among the 3 best bets for Royal Ascot finale

| 21.06.2014

All the good people at Ascot racecourse wish to do is start rolling up the Queen’s blasted red carpet, having seen enough daft hats (and more than enough of Gok Wan) to last well into next summer, as well as overhearing plenty of indecipherable rural Irish chit-chat.

Hard luck guys, because there’s one more day left of the 2014 Berkshire bonanza and we’ve picked out three to follow for the finale.

2.30 – Cordero @ 4/1

Sprint expert Wesley Ward added another Royal Ascot winner to his trio of previous triumphs at the Flat season showpiece, when Victor Espinoza booted home Hootenanny in the Windsor Castle Stakes.

The US handler has two in the 7f Chesham Stakes, with Espinoza back on board Crown The Kitten after guiding the colt to second in his first run at Belmont Park earlier this month.

Crown The Kitten will attract plenty of support with Ward’s number one jockey in tow, but stablemate Cordero – who was sired by Giant’s Causeway and is owned by Ballydoyle – looks a very interesting two-year-old prospect on debut.

3.05 – Arab Spring @ 2/1

This Michael Stoute charge may be top weight, but Arab Spring is only a pound higher than he was when seeing off Duke Of Clarence in the Jorvick Stakes at York last month.

After winning three of his four races so far and finishing second in the other one, the four-year-old is expected to test the waters of group company soon, but Stoute hasn’t left him in the Duke Of Edinburgh just for the experience, so expect regular jockey Ryan Moore to defy the handicapper again here.

5.00 – Hoof It @ 16/1

Kieren Fallon will be reunited with Hoof It at Royal Ascot, and this combination has proved particularly profitable for punters in recent years.

The former Ballydoyle number one has made it past the post first in four of the 10 races he’s been on aboard Mike Easterby’s seven-year-old, and grabbed first-four finishes in his last two Hoof It rides.

At any double-figure odds, Hoof It plus Fallon has to be the pick for an each-way punt, especially with Ladbrokes going 1/4 odds on the first five home in the Wokingham.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
