Quicken Loans National has Day’s name scrawled all over it

Tiger Woods’ repaired back will take every single glimmer of limelight as the Quicken Loans National gets underway at the Congressional Country Club for the sixth time in the tournament’s eight year history, but that shouldn’t mean the world number five is an automatic betting selection.

87 days after going under the knife to correct a pinched nerve in his back, Woods will tee it up back at a tournament he’s won twice before. But while his golf swing may be pain free it’s sure to be coated in rust.

A 7, 569 yard, par 71 course with vast greens that make three-putts a common theme, Congressional is more suited to the all-round golfer rather than favouring any one skill.

Bill Haas’ win last year proved this theory as he claimed victory thanks to ranking tied-fourth in greens in regulation and second for strokes gained putting.

He’s 40/1 to retain his title, but as no player has managed that feat in the tournament’s history he fails to make the grade in our staking plan.

Australian Jason Day is the man handed Ladbrokes’ favourites tag at 10/1, thanks to plush form of tied fourth and tied 18th in his last two starts along with course form of 2, T8 and T21.

A player who possesses encouraging stats all the way from the tee to the cup, Day’s short price shouldn’t be enough to dissuade punters placing a few of their hard earned coins on the 26-year-old winning this week.

An each way flutter should be flicked the way of Angel Cabrera too, considering he owns the kind of game that’ll flourish at Congressional.

He only ever turns out for fields of the highest quality and returned to form at the Travelers Championship last time, tying for 11th in his best return of the season.

At 100/1 to win the tournament, an each-way punt is definitely the way to go , with Ladbrokes paying out at quarter the odds should he finish in the top five.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
