Man United agree De Vrij fee: How many Dutch stars will follow?

Published:

Overseas Premier League managers entrusting their countrymen with boosting their ranks is nothing new – just ask Arsene Wenger, Rafa Benitez and Roy Keane – but that hasn’t stopped the media linking new Man United boss with anyone and everyone from Holland.

With the most likely candidates in mind the Ladbrokes traders have priced up the following players to join Manchester United this summer:

Stefan de Vrij – Feyenoord – Betting suspended

Latest reports suggest United and Feyenoord have agreed a fee that will see the 22-year-old defender move to Old Trafford.

The Ladbrokes traders see no reason for this move to be delayed and as such have suspended all bets.

Nigel de Jong – AC Milan – 3/1

The departures of Nemanja Vidic and  Rio Ferdinand mean United’s defence will need protecting if they are to return to the upper echelons of the English top flight.

If youngster De Vrij is to be the new face of the back four then who better to watch over him than compatriot and World Cup team-mate De Jong?

Wesley Sneijder – Galatasaray – 10/1

Sneijder has been linked with a United move for a number of years but with Bilbao’s Ander Herrera on the brink of a move any deal for the Gala man looks dead and buried.

Jordy Clasie – Feyenoord – 7/2

Being young, talented and Dutch makes Clasie an obvious player to link with United but his ball for the Robin van Persie goal shown below should be enough to have Van Gaal salivating at the prospect of teaming them up at club level.

Memphis DePay – PSV –  5/1

The ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’ is on everyone’s wish list after some fine displays in Brazil and if he decides to leave the Eredivise for a new challeng Van Gaal is likely to be his first option after giving him his break on the international scene.

Arjen Robben – Bayern Munich – 5/1

Robben has set the World Cup alight with his blistering pace and three goals to help Holland top their group with a maximum nine points.

Ashley Young, Wilfried Zaha and Nani are all rumoured to be on the way out so there is certainly room for Robben at United.

Daryl Janmaat – Feyenoord – 8/1

Another player likely to be used to balance the books at Feyenoord who could be on his way to the Premier league.

Current United right-back Rafael has proven injury-prone of late but with both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling able to deputise this looks one Dutchman too far for the new-look Red Devils squad.
