Liverpool moving at a lick as they track another Bundesliga star

Published:

At their current rate, the powers that be at Liverpool will have conducted all transfer business before the next world champions are even crowned.

Liverpool’s lust for new signings shows no sign of abating as the Metro newspaper reports that the Reds are about to offer Hoffenheim £15m for Brazilian midfielder Roberto Firmino.

Firmino is not featuring for Brazil at the current World Cup, though the attacking midfielder can count himself unlucky after a terrific campaign in the Bundesliga.

Still only 22, Firmino scored 16 goals and assisted another 11 in only 33 appearances this season and fits the mould of forward players which Brendan Rodgers clearly admires.

Having already been linked heavily with the likes of Xherdan Shiqiri and Adam Lallana this summer – two players who can operate out wide or centrally like Firmino – the trail has since gone cold for those deals.

It’s thought financial reasons are to blame, which could be remedied by capturing the slightly cheaper Hoffenheim man.

Far from following the well-worn path of deadline-day deals, the Reds have already sealed moves for England striker
Rickie Lambert and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can in the early throws of the transfer window.

Ever since Rodgers agonisingly fell short of landing the Premier League title he’s appeared to be a manager on a mission in the transfer market, as he plans for another tilt at glory next season.

Liverpool have already slipped behind the likes of Chelsea in the betting for the 2014/15 title, at 13/2, and with the Blues securing the capture of stars players Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas recently, they can ill afford to stand still.

7/4 favourites Manchester City are also reportedly putting the final touches onto a deals to bring Porto midfielder Fernando and Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna to the Etihad.
