French Open day 11: Murray and Nadal set to play it straight

The Scot put in a battling display to see off Fernando Verdasco in three hard-fought sets last time out but we are backing the Brit to have an easier time of things against home favourite Monfils.
The Frenchman has only faced one seed on his way to the quarter-finals and, in truth, was fortunate to come through that five-set thriller with Fabio Fognini in the 3rd round, after losing the fourth set 6-0.
These two haven’t played each other in four years, with the Wimbledon winner coming out on top 2-1 on that occasion but since that match Murray has asserted himself as one of the game’s top players. Back the Scot to seal a semi-final spot in style.
Errani looked impressive in her 2-0 victory over Jelena Jankovic, a match the Italian should have perhaps won more comfortably having been up a break in the first set, which she went on to win in a tie-break.
She should have an easier time of it against Petkovic, who has made hard work of her progress thus far, having come through three-set encounters in each of the last three rounds.
With Errani on a run of three straight-sets wins and fresh from beating Petkovic 2-0 on clay in Madrid earlier this year, it’s hard to argue against the former French Open finalist.
The King of Clay was at his imperious best against Dusan Lajrovic, dumping the Serbian out of Roland Garros with three sets of near-perfect tennis 6-1 6-2 6-1.
Nadal has yet to drop a set at this year’s French Open and looks unlikely to do so against old foe David Ferrer. His counterpart endured something of a mini-scare in the last round, dropping the third set to Kevin Anderson in a tie-break, before winning the fourth 6-1.
But having lost five consecutive matches to Nadal in straight sets, in a run that includes last year’s French Open final, Ferrer should fear the worst.
