Dustin Johnson certainly one to watch at Travelers Championship

Aside from US Open winner Martin Kaymer’s majestic performance, not many of the PGA Tour’s top dogs could contend with the rigours of Pinehurst, with only two others managing to break par ahead of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Only one of those two players who tied for second at Pinehurst, Erik Compton, lines up in the north Eastern state, while Rickie Fowler – tipped for a top-10 finish at the US – takes a breather.

At 66/1, Compton is not fancied to secure his first PGA Tour win at the TPC River Highlands course, though making the top 10 for a fourth time this season at 5/1 is a tasty alternative.

He may have waited until his mid 30s to make an impression on the Tour, but his US Open performance at one of America’s most challenging layouts, allied with fifth at the
Arnold Palmer and Zurich Classic events earlier this season have ensured he’s beginning to mix it.

Another far better-known name, who emerged from the year’s second major with significant FedEx points thanks to a T4 finish – his fourth top-five posting in 11 starts – is Dustin Johnson at 14/1 for victory.

The big-hitting South Carolina native, who ranks second in overall driving distance, also registers at number five in the PGA Tour’s power rankings for this event.

In a season which began with an eighth senior win at the World Golf Championships in Dubai, D.J has been the model of consistency, posting top 10s in half of the 14 events he has attended.

Another to arrive buoyed by a late Sunday surge to finish T4 alongside Dustin at Pinehurst is Australian Jason Day, also a 14/1 shot here.
