Chelsea making overtures at France’s World Cup whizzkid
Published:There may be a World Cup in full flow, but back in Blighty it’s fast becoming a summer of big money moves (and wet festivals) as the Premier League’s elite clubs set about preparing for another ding-dong battle in 2014/15.
Never shy of spending a buck or two, Chelsea have already made one very significant addition to their ranks, by forking out £30m for former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, while a reported £32m deal for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa appears all-but dusted.
However, the 2/1 title-shots for the forthcoming season are unlikely to leave it there, especially with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United also investing heavily.
The latest whispers doing the rounds are that Jose Mourinho has taken a real shine to Juventus and France international midfielder Paul Pogba, formerly nurtured then sold off by United.
Pogba, only just 21, laid down a real marker of a season in Serie A, where he contributed seven league goals to help Juve successfully defend their title with room to spare.
The youngster has been rewarded with a place in Didier Deschamps’ France squad for Brazil where he’s now caught the attention of the wider world as one of the brightest young talents on the planet.
Pogba started two of Les Bleus’ three group games and put in a particularly dazzling display against Ecuador, despite the game finishing 0-0.
He’s a player who seems to have it all; quick feet, an eye for a pass, pace and is always a threat in the final third, but scarily he is still some way of his peak.
Hence Chelsea would have to dig deep even by their standards to prise Pogba away from the Old Lady, with an offer in the region of £60 supposedly being readied.
