Breaking Bets: Eto’o Out! – Croatia 6/4 to win to nil vs Cameroon

Published:

Samuel Eto’o revealed to a Cameroon TV station that it would take a ‘minor miracle’ to get him onto the field for the Indomitable Lions’ must-win World Cup clash against Croatia.

Ladbrokes have reacted to the news of the Cameroon talisman’s likely omission by pricing up a Croatia win to nil at 6/4.

The 33-year-old has been a mainstay of the Cameroon side for around 17 years and has made 118 appearances, scoring 56 goals.

The former Chelsea striker is his country’s all-time leading goalscorer and his absence will be a huge blow to a Cameroon side who failed to find the net in their World Cup opener against Mexico.

The news of Eto’o’s possible absence will also be a huge boost to a Croatian backline who conceded three goals on the opening night of the World Cup against Brazil.

Niko Kovac’s side, who will be aided in attack by the return of Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic,  have managed to keep a clean sheet just once in their last four matches but they will be confident of improving that record facing an Eto’o-less Cameroon in Manaus.

Elsewhere in Group A, Mexico held Brazil to a 0-0 draw last night and in reaction to that result have been priced at 8/1 by Ladbrokes to top the group following the final round of matches.

Miguel Herrera’s side have yet to concede a goal during the tournament largely thanks to the heroics of reported Arsenal and Liverpool target Guillermo Ochoa.

The Mexican keeper became the new darling of the World Cup after keeping the hosts at bay with a string of fine reaction stops from the likes of Neymar and Thiago Silva.

Mexico are now locked at the top of the group on four points with Brazil and with Croatia coming up for El Tricolor in their final group match, another inspired performance from the 28-year-old could mean yet another clean sheet and a chance of toppling Brazil on their way to winning the group.
