Arsenal and QPR locked in battle for Dutch midfielder
Published:Nigel De Jong is ready to turn his back on Serie A and return to the Premier League after close pal Clarence Seedorf was axed as AC Milan manager.
The Dutch international made no secret that his future would be thrown into doubt should Seedorf lose his job at the San Siro and not even a hat-trick at Soccer Aid on Sunday could save the Dutch legend, who lasted just five months in charge!
Filippo Inzaghi has been named as the new Rossoneri boss and Arsenal are looking to take advantage of the situation by making a move for De Jong.
Arsene Wenger is looking to bolster his midfield options and the 29-year-old, who has featured in the Premier League with Manchester City, could fit the bill.
The Dutch international was a key part of the City side which won the FA Cup in 2011 and followed it up with Premier League glory in 2012 and his experience could prove to be vital as the Gunners go in search of a first title since the 2003-04 season.
The former Ajax star, who famously escaped a red card for a Kung Fu-style kick on Xabi Alonso in the final of the 2010 World Cup, would provide some much needed steel to a midfield featuring the likes of Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla, Aron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil.

And with Arteta and Flamini both the wrong side of 30, De Jong’s possible arrival at the Emirates would provide some much needed cover in the central midfield area.
The north London club could face stiff competition from QPR with Harry Redknapp a huge admirer of the Dutch holding midfielder.
But before any decision is made De Jong is in Brazil with Louis van Gaal’s Holland squad as they look to go one better than in 2010 and lift the World Cup for the first time.
The Oranje fell at the final hurdle to the all-conquering Spaniards in South Africa and are available at odds of 25/1 with Ladbrokes to finally win the famous trophy in Brazil.
