Arsenal and Liverpool have chance of landing Mexico’s hero

One casual scroll through the internet after Mexico played Brazil would leave surfers in no doubt over who the star of the 0-0 draw was, as the web joined forces to eulogize over El Tri stopper Guillermo Ochoa.

As you can see from the below vine, the 28-year-old made a string of fantastic saves to keep Neymar and co at bay in Group A’s second round of fixtures. The well-deserved point he helped earn them makes Mexico 7/1 shots to win their group, as they sit level on points with the hosts with a game to go.

Whether it was tweets depicting the Guadalajara native as a member of the Fantastic Four, illustrations of a brick-filled goal with Ochoa’s head poking through or YouTube clips of his other heroic performances, the goalie was an undoubted online star after putting on a shot-stopping show.

A free agent following his departure from relegated Ligue 1 outfit Ajaccio this summer, Ochoa’s availability has been thrust to the forefront of transfer rumours as his display caught the eye of plenty of glove-seeking European clubs.

Monaco are thought to be leading the charge to sign him, with the player’s own preference to stay in France tipping the scales in their favour. But with both Liverpool and Arsenal also keen on sealing his services, Ochoa could be making a tough choice once the World Cup ends.

The Mexican rates playing in the Champions League next term just as highly as securing a French residency, leaving the Premier League pair with a chance of luring him to England.

With moves away for respective deputies Lukas Fabianski and Pepe Reina either sealed or pending, both clubs are in need of net-minding replenishment and Ochoa would provide stern competition to both Wojciech Szczesny and Simon Mignolet.
