Arsenal focus radar elsewhere as right-back saga seemingly ends

Whether Bacary Sagna stays at Arsenal next season, and who would be his replacement should he decide to end his seven-year stay at the Emirates, has dominated the Gunners’ off-season prose so far. But it seems a new chapter in their summer story can finally be started.

The 31-year-old recently told L’Equipe that he’d be leaving the north London FA Cup winners after discussions over a new contract had not gone to his liking.

A host of names have been linked with filling Sagna’s void, from Schalke’s Atsuto Uchida to World Cup-bound Spaniard Juanfran.

However, the most regular to fill Arsenal right-back rumours is Ivory Coast youngster Serge Aurier and video has emerged where the 21-year-old seems to confirm to an American fan he’ll be moving to the Gunners. (Watch that video below).

So, with his biggest transfer headache seemingly cured, Arsene Wenger can start taking the medicine that’ll fix his other aches and pains.

Finding a striker to lighten Olivier Giroud’s load should surely be his next course of action, and the list of potential candidates will only dwindle as the off-season wears on.

Mario Balotelli, Mario Mandzukic and Loic Remy have all been supposedly earmarked by the Frenchman, if recent reports are to be believed, but it’s perhaps a different striker that the club should be focusing their efforts on recruiting.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani is reportedly unhappy with his role at the Ligue 1 champions, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic demanding the majority of the ball and attention in the French capital.

Manchester United have long been associated with the Uruguyan, who is 40/1 to be the World Cup’s top scorer this summer, but with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie equally big fish in the Old Trafford pond, it’s unlikely to be a good move for Cavani.

Wenger is expected to be given a substantial transfer budget for new recruits and, with his right-back problem looking to be solved, can finally use the cash to land a world-class front man.
