The 3 bets to be on ahead of Braehead’s Boxing Bonzanza

Published:

There’s a cracking evening of boxing set for Glasgow’s Braehead Arena, with former Premier League footballer Curtis Woodhouse and useful local lightweight Ricky Burns sure to draw a crowd, although the fight of the night could come via a bitter opening contest.

Get your bets in quick, because the three punts below pay out at over 5/1 in a treble, but the prices won’t be around for long…

Stephen Simmons to beat Wadi Camacho by KO, TKO or Disqualification @ 10/11

This has all the makings of a slug-fest after Spanish challenger Camacho’s pre-fight antics, with some creative photo-shopping of his opponents’ wife among the least tasteful things ever attached to a boxing match.

Simmons, the WBC International Silver cruiserweight champion, head-butted his rival during the weigh-in, and with the Edinburgh man’s last three fights failing to last the distance, siding with the 29-year-old to finish a brutal contest early seems the way to play.

Willie Limond to beat Curtis Woodhouse @ 11/10

Woodhouse’s journey from the Premier League to the ring reached a thrilling climax in February, when the 34-year-old won the British light-welterweight title by beating Derek Hamilton, but the former Birmingham midfielder could rue his decision to delay retirement for this fight.

Glasgow pugilist Limond has won 28 of his 29 fights in the Scottish capital, and with Woodhouse clearly far from unbeatable – having lost six of his 22 career bouts, twice by way of knockout – the local boy gets our nod.

Ricky Burns to beat Dejan Zlaticanin by decision @ 4/7

Burns may have gone down to a decision defeat in his last Glasgow assignment, but 22 of the Lanarkshire man’s 24 other bouts in his homeland have gone his way and unbeaten Montenegrin Zlaticanin shouldn’t be a threat in his first fight away from the Balkan nations.

However, four of Burns’ last six fights have lasted 12 rounds, and a knockout-rate of just 11 in 36 wins suggests another slog is on the cards here.
