World Cup Watch: Man United’s next Evra could be in Swiss squad

Published:

While the rest of the Premier League send scouts to watch over the recommendations we’ve been making in this World Cup Watch series, Manchester United will have their manager closer to the action than any talent spotter at the tournament.

New boss Louis van Gaal takes his Holland side to Brazil as 25/1 shots to win the World Cup, but he’ll do well to keep a keen eye on these three while he’s there, with his debut Red Devils campaign in mind:

Alexis Sanchez – Chile – Forward

There aren’t likely to be many front men of Sanchez’s quality, whose clubs are open to receiving offers for this summer.

Despite making 32 appearances on the right of Barcelona’s forward line this term, scoring 17 goals from the position, the Catalan club are thought to including the Chilean, who is 11/4 to be his country’s top scorer, in a squad reshape.

Having tried and seemingly failed to lure Thomas Muller to United’s wing, the Dutch boss could do worse than nabbing Sanchez.

Ricardo Rodriguez – Switzerland – Defender

Patrice Evra may have signed a one-year extension at Old Trafford but he isn’t far away from following Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand out of the the club.

Alex Buttner hasn’t shown anything to suggest he’s ready to take over in the Frenchman’s absence, so Wolfsburg’s Swiss starter could step in.

Rodriguez enjoyed a superb Bundesliga campaign this season, scoring five goals and laying on a further nine for teammates in 34 appearances.

Romulo – Italy – Midfielder

Although not quite as glamorous a name as other creative midfield targets like Cesc Fabregas and William Carvalho, Romulo has played a significant role in Hellas Verona’s hugely impressive return to Serie A.

The Brazil-born 27-year-old is versatile, having played on the wing and at full back this season, assisted the team on eight goals and scored six himself.
