Spurs v A.Villa: Villans’ poor form in north London to continue

Published:

The race for the Europa League goes down to the wire with Tottenham needing just a point from their clash with Aston Villa at White Hart Lane to seal European qualification.

Tim Sherwood’s side could have wrapped up qualification with a result against West Ham last weekend but a 2-0 victory for the Hammers scuppered that plan.

But now they will be confident of wrapping up sixth place in the Premier League with victory over a side they have not lost to in the last 11 matches between the pair.

Spurs are 1/2 with Ladbrokes to take all three points, while Aston Villa, who are on a run of four straight defeats to Sherwood’s men, are 11/2 for the win.

The stalemate in north London – a result which has happened just once in the last eight meetings between the two clubs – is on at odds of 16/5 with the bookmaker.

On Villa’s last two trips to the Lane Tottenham have run out convincing 2-0 winners on both occasions and a repeat of that scoreline is available at 7/1.

Aston Villa’s last three trips to face Tottenham have all ended with the home side scoring two goals and it could pay to back a repeat in the Home Team Goal Bands market, with 2-3 Spurs goals priced at evens.

Back in 2011, Emmanuel Adebayor was the hero for Spurs after firing a double to sink the Midlands club and the Togo international is 5/1 for a repeat performance.

The former Manchester City striker opened the scoring that day and he is 9/2 to score the first goal, while he is 5/4 to score at any time.

The Villans have not won any of their last eight matches on the road and have to hark back to January for the last time they tasted success away from home.

Gabby Agbonlahor was on the scoresheet that day in a 1-0 win over Sunderland and the former England international is 8/1 to open the scoring.
