Romain Grosjean out to impress at the Monaco Grand Prix

Romain Grosjean may be a name more commonly associated with multi-car pile-ups in Formula 1, but the Frenchman remains one to watch in motorsport and will be keen to make an impact in Monaco this weekend.

The 28-year-old has never completed the course at the Principality track, but has been given an extra incentive to do well this time around, amid reports linking him with a move away from Lotus.

Team owner Gerard Lopez broke the news that a number of rivals are after the driver, whose stock has risen following an impressive 2013 campaign.

Grosjean managed an impressive six podium finishes last year with Lotus, a stark contrast to his 2012 season, which includes a one race ban after the Frenchman was blamed for a multi-car pile-up in the Belgium Grand Prix.

And while the 28-year-old has made a relatively slow start to the current campaign, in which the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have stolen a march on their rivals, he put in a solid performance last time out in Spain to finish eighth.

Ladbrokes is offering 8/13 on another top 10 placing in Monaco and although Grosjean’s record at the track is far from impressive, the words of Lopez are likely to spur him on this weekend.

“Here is a driver who was criticised, and now suddenly people are saying he is a driver who could pretty much drive for any team,” he told reporters.

Grosjean is very much a driver on a steady track of progression – five of the six podium finishes he managed last season came at tracks where he had fared worse the previous year, with the only exception being Bahrain, where he has finished third for two years running.

And with the world watching on, alongside a few other teams, finishing within the top six looks an achievable aim at odds of 5/2.
