Moores recalls fast-bowling ace Anderson to England ODI squad

James Anderson has praised the appointment of Peter Moores as England coach and after the announcement of the former Lancashire coach’s first national squad it’s plain to see why!

After 11 months since playing his last 50-over match for England, who are 10/1 to win next year’s World Cup, the Lancashire seamer is back in the ODI squad for the game against Scotland in Aberdeen on May 9th.

The 31-year-old suffered a dip in form during England’s disastrous Ashes campaign last winter and was rested for the limited overs series tagged onto the end of what can only be described as a tour from hell.

But Moores, who knows all about Anderson from his time at Old Trafford, had no hesitation in recalling the paceman for his first ODI since England’s defeat to India in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy last summer.

Anderson has taken 245 ODI wickets in 174 matches and his experience alongside the likes of Chris Jordan and uncapped left-arm seamer Harry Gurney will be vital to this new-look side, led by skipper Alastair Cook.

With Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan absent Notts star Gurney has been impressive with the white ball in county cricket and gets his reward by being included in the 13-man squad for the game north of the border.

Steven Finn, who left England’s tour Down Under, is another who has not made the cut despite his return to form with Middlesex, while James Tredwell is the frontline spinner in Moores’ first squad.

On the batting front Joe Root returns to the side after missing the World Twenty20 with a broken thumb, while Worcestershire star Moeen Ali and Yorkshire’s Gary Ballance keep their places in the squad.

Ben Stokes is still out with injury so Chris Woakes gets the chance to impress in the all-rounder role ahead of the Sri Lanka series.
