Two Derby goals or more among the best bets against Brighton

Steve McClaren’s quest to become a Premier League manager again begins in earnest when his Derby County side kick off the Championship playoffs with a first-leg trip to face Brighton.

Having finished in third place in the English second tier and five points ahead of his closest rival, Ladbrokes expect the former Middlesbrough manager to guide his current club back to the promised land at 9/4.

Despite being favoured to prevail in the race for promotion, Derby’s mission begins as outsiders when they travel to the south coast. The Rams are priced up at 15/8 to record a road win at The Amex, with Brighton the slim 7/5 favourites and a draw available at 23/10.

But, away from the match-betting market, what are the best bets for the game? Well here are our three:

Derby to score over 1.5 goals – 19/10

The Pride Park club did the double over Brighton during the regular season, inflicting one of just six home defeats on the Seagulls in the course of the campaign.

In all six of those games, Brighton shipped two goals or more and, as the Championship’s leading scorers in away games, Derby can tuck in once more.

Under 2.5 total goals – 13/20

If you think Brighton will keep Derby at bay, though, then the best bet is on the unders in the total-goals market.

Only eight of Oscar Garcia’s league home games in charge of Brighton have seen over 2.5 goals scored, a tally that is the joint-fewest in the Championship’s regular season.

Chris Martin to score at any time – 7/4

Derby’s top scorer has picked an opportune time to find his form again, scoring five in the last seven games having previously netted that same number in the preceding 19 appearances.

His measly four strikes to open a game’s scoring mean the 6/1 on him breaking the deadlock should be avoided in favour of an anytime punt.
