Celtic star looking to Premier League with Manchester United

News reports would have you believe that Louis van Gaal marked his appointment as the new Manchester United manager  by submitting a shopping list of transfer targets to the Red Devils board and, though a long-shot, one man hoping to be on that fabled roster is Virgil van Dijk.

Currently valued at around £8m by Celtic, the Dutch defender has been the subject of much interest from the Premier League, with United thought to be leading the list of potential suitors.

However if the Red Devils are planning to recruit Van Dijk this summer, then they may have to move fast, with the race to recruit the 22-year-old already heating up on the continent.

It comes after reports suggested that Dinamo Moscow had launched a bid to recruit the defender, ahead of a fresh assault on the Russian Premier League.

Dinamo endured something of a campaign to forget over the past year, finishing some way off title winners CSKA Moscow and runners-up Zenit St Petersburg.

The Russian club will undoubtedly be willing to match Celtic’s asking price for the highly-rated Dutch star, in a move that could ultimately force Manchester United’s hands.

The Old Trafford giants look set to splash the cash this summer following their worst ever season in the history of the Premier League.

And while rumours linking the club with big names like Toni Kroos and Marco Reus continue to capture the headlines, Van Dijk could be an astute acquisition to start Van Gaal’s reign.

His departure would be a blow to Neil Lennon’s plans at Celtic, with the Northern Irishman the subject of some speculation in recent weeks, amid reports linking him with the vacant Norwich City job.

The Canaries are keen to make an immediate return to the Premier League, following a disappointing season in which big money signings like Ricky van Wolfswinkel have failed to deliver.
