Best of British: Froch heads up list of top 5 UK boxing stars

It promises to be a huge month for British boxing with Carl Froch and George Groves’ much anticipated re-match taking place at Wembley Stadium on 31 May.

Froch, who won the first bout with a controversial stoppage, is 4/6 with Ladbrokes for another victory while Groves is 5/4 to turn the tables on his British rival.

With this in mind the Ladbrokes News team takes a look at who is in the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the UK at the moment.

Carl Froch (34-2-0) – Current IBF and WBA Super-middleweight Champion

Despite many thinking Carl Froch was lucky to beat George Groves when they met back in November, there is no doubting the Nottingham-born fighter deserves his place at the head of this list. The Cobra will fight anyone anywhere and after taking 10 world title fights in a row, the three-time world champion is showing no sign of stopping just yet ahead of his re-match with Groves at Wembley.

Kell Brook (32-0-0)

The Special One’s night of destiny is fast approaching as he finally gets a shot at Shawn Porter’s IBF world welterweight crown. Kell Brook, who has a record of 32 fights 32 wins, is the mandatory challenger for the title and is scheduled to fight the unbeaten American before 19 July. Brook has also targeted a bout against domestic rival Amir Khan but with a world title challenge on the horizon that British clash will have to go on the backburner…for now!

Amir Khan (29-3-0)

The Bolton fighter burst back onto the scene with a hugely impressive win over Ricky Hatton’s former opponent Luis Collazo in Las Vegas. Khan, who will fight again in November, will now be targeting back-to-back victories before chasing a huge showdown with pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. Kell Brook will be lying in wait should the 27-year-old, who is 5/1 outsider to win any potential clash with the unbeaten American, slip up in his pursuit of Money Mayweather.

Scott Quigg (28-0-2) – Current WBA Super Bantamweight champion

Carl Frampton (18-0-0)

Here at Ladbrokes HQ we are sitting on the fence with these two British super-bantamweights. There could be an argument made for current WBA world champion Scott Quigg coming out on top but Carl Frampton is also destined for a world title in the near future. Last time out Quigg was mightily impressive in demolishing Tshifhiwa Munyai in just two rounds, while Frampton continued his march to a world title shot with an impressive knockout of Hugo Cazares in Belfast. Both are now chasing a shot at WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz but the fight we all want to see is Quigg v Frampton! Then we can all stop sitting on the fence and find out who the best super-bantam weight in the country is!

Tyson Fury (22-0-0)

It’s been a quite a year for Tyson Fury after his domestic clash against David Haye was called off twice. It left the unbeaten Mancunian heavyweight frustrated and on the brink of retirement but with his wobble over he is back and in action against Dereck Chisora this summer. Fury, who has beaten Chisora before, is 1/2 for a victory over his domestic rival that would see him become mandatory challenger for Wladamir Klitschko’s WBO strap.
