Bookies predict Arsenal will return to barren ways next season

A collective sigh of relief could be heard around the red half of north London as Arsenal ended their nine-year wait for a trophy with a typically jittery FA Cup final win over Hull.

Fittingly it was Aaron Ramsey, their best player this season, who scored the extra-time goal that sealed the come-from-behind victory. But the bookies are predicting the win to be a slim glimmer of light in a continued trophy dark-spell for the Gunners.

Ladbrokes make it odds-on at 2/7 that the Arsenal trophy cabinet stays shut throughout next season, while it’s a 5/2 shot they pick up at least one piece of silverware.

The FA Cup doesn’t look like it’ll have much chance of returning to the Emirates next season, as Manchester City and Chelsea are joint favourites to win next season’s competition, according to Ladbrokes.

The Gunners are an 8/1 chance to make it back-to-back trophies at Wembley, whilst Hull are rated at 40/1.

Both City and the Blues are given equal front-runner status at 6/1 with Liverpool fancied at 8s and Manchester United at 10/1.

Arsene Wenger’s odds of leaving this summer are now out to 6/1 following the much needed victory, as it would be a bitter blow to the side should he decide to call time on his long-standing relationship with the club having just ended the dry spell.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It took Arsenal long enough and it’s cost us a fortune as Hull were completely written off by ante post punters. However, as sweet as the win might be the odds suggest Wenger’s side won’t be adding any more silverware to the collection over the next 12 months.”

She added: “Arsenal had punters on the edge of their seat and in-play records have gone through the roof. Mobile betting reached a peak of 2000 bets per minute.”
