Arsenal full-back doing all he can to leave club a parting gift
Published:Bacary Sagna doesn’t look like he’ll be playing his football at Arsenal next season, but to his credit the Frenchman is doing all he can to ensure he’ll be remembered fondly in north London when he goes.
It’s not just his performances on the pitch that Sagna is attempting to soften the blow with either. The 31-year-old invited a heavily-linked Gunners target to the Emirates to watch their clash with West Brom at the weekend.
The right-back, who holds a corporate box at the north London stadium, often invites national teammates to take in the Arsenal splendour and picked the perfect time to extend the courtesy to Loic Remy.
The on-loan Newcastle striker has been regularly tipped to move across London from parent club QPR come the season’s close, with the 8/15 FA Cup favourites’ scant numbers up front thought to be their main reason for showing him an interest.
Having had the chance to take in the surroundings, Remy (or his representatives) isn’t likely to have let the visit slip by without seeking a chat with the Gunners hierarchy about a switch.
With the lottery of the playoffs to negotiate, which QPR are 5/2 to win, it’s not certain that Harry Redknapp’s club will be back in the top-flight yet, making a potential switch all the more possible.
With the striker quite open about wanting to move to a top-six club, Remy’s appearance in the stands for the West Brom game obviously set tongues wagging.
Having been over-reliant on Olivier Giroud this term, Arsene Wenger is in desperate need of striking reinforcements at the Emirates and bringing in Remy, who has a proven Premier League record, would certainly appease that problem.
The Frenchman has scored a combined 20 times in 40 Premier League appearances for QPR and Newcastle, an attractive strike rate for any club in top-flight, and would not cost as much as some other Gunners targets like Karim Benzema or Diego Costa.
