Westwood back in the groove in time for Malaysia success

Those who enjoyed the action at Augusta last weekend will recognise those dominating the front end of the market with Lee Westwood and Louis Oosthuizen tied at 10/1 joint-favourites in a suitably wide-open betting heat.

Matteo Manassero and Francesco Molinari also took the walk down Magnolia Lane last week and are fourth and fifth favourites at 20/1 behind Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello who failed to qualify for the Georgia showpiece.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat is quoted next and the layers are taking no chances with the defending champion at 25/1 despite the Thai swinger struggling to get into contention since.

The 24-year-old won’t have to look far to find some inspiration as he attempts to land the double in Kuala Lumpur with the last man to achieve the feat, his countryman Thongchai Jaidee also in the field.

The evergreen 44-year-old played some nice stuff without ever threatening when coming 37th in the first Major of the season and will not be short of supporters at 33/1 to record a first victory since landing the Wales Open two seasons ago.

The likes of Nicolas Colsaerts (50/1), Alvaro Quiros (50/1) and England’s very own Tom Lewis (66/1) are likely to attract attention but, however unoriginal it may be financial focus should be trained on those at the top of the betting.

Lee Westwood registered yet another top-10 finish at Augusta and despite never coming close another to challenge the leaders a reproduction of that level would see the ever popular 40-year-old go very close.

The Worksop wonder landed this title two years prior to its European Tour co-sanctioning in 1997 and although the course has since changed he remains a worthy favourite now that his game is clearly coming back to the boil.

No-one in the field has had as much success in the event as Jaidee and at the prices he deserves an eachway investment. The Asian maestro will arrive in high spirits after guiding his continent to an unlikely draw in the EurAsia Cup recently.
