Tottenham v Fulham: Goals the only thing guaranteed
Beleaguered boss Tim Sherwood is entitled to feel slightly hard done by considering his team are still in the race for top four albeit with seven points to make up and only four games left to play.
But the ex-Blackburn star looks certain to leave at the end of the season regardless of whether he manages to work the miracle and it’s a credit to him and his team that the wheels have not completely fallen off now that all their previous targets appear beyond them.
Back-to-back home wins against Southampton and Sunderland came before last weekend’s dramatic draw with West Brom where Sherwood was understandably delighted his players had the necessary fight to recover from going 3-0 down.
Fulham are also showing plenty of character and they need to continue to do so with relegation still considered an odds-on shot at 5/6.
Maximum points from their last two outings away to Aston Villa and at home to Norwich have given Felix Magath’s side a chance at survival no-one thought they would get a fortnight ago and with the Canaries facing a run-in consisting of only top-six sides there is genuine belief that they can extend their stay in the topflight for another year.
Despite winning their last two, however, a draw would be an excellent result for the visitors with more winnable fixtures around the corner.
Unfortunately, nothing in Fulham’s season suggest they will be able to contain the hosts and they will know that their best chance is to contribute to the scoreline themselves.
In six out of their last eight games away from home Fulham have been involved in games where both sides have scored and that looks a certainty at 4/6 considering Tottenham haven’t been able to keep a clean sheet in their last eight.
Quotes of 27/20 on the Sky Sports cameras capturing more than 3.5 goals also represents value as that selection would have reaped dividends in Spurs’ last five and two of Fulham’s last three away games.
