Swansea’s infighting players could easily get dragged down

It appears all is not well on the south Wales coast amid reports that bad feeling among the players has spilled over into a recent training ground dust up.

According to a Swansea spokesperson “certain players” were involved in a training ground altercation prior to their most recent Premier League loss to Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium.

While it’s unclear which players were responsible, things in the Swans camp cannot have become too much happier after Chico Flores’ double-booking in the first half went a long way to facilitating a fifth loss in eight league matches.

In fact, since Garry Monk was elevated into the Swansea hot seat following the sacking of Michael Laudrup, positive results have been all-too rare for the former player.

As it stands Monk has only picked up victories against Cardiff and Norwich, two clubs firmly ensconced in the relegation battle and with all the goings on at Swansea, they are in serious danger of the drop.

Despite being precariously perched just three points above third-from-bottom Fulham and only four ahead of bitter rivals Cardiff, last season’s League Cup winners seem a huge price at 12/1 to get dragged back to the Championship.

Although Swansea have many talented players and seldom get beaten by more than the odd goal, their downward momentum at this point must be a huge concern to those associated with the club.

Swansea travel to Newcastle next and although the Magpies have been entrenched in their own malaise in recent times there will be huge expectation on Alan Pardew’s side to finally put things right at St James’ Park.

Southampton, who beat them 2-0 earlier in the season, will not be easy either, while games against others threatened with the drop in Aston Villa and lastly Sunderland will be huge scraps.
