Spurs ace eyeing up cross-town switch to rivals Arsenal

Spurs ace Younes Kaboul could see his popularity among the White Hart Lane faithful plummet following news of a potential switch to arch rivals Arsenal.

Former Lilywhites defender Sol Campbell made the same move when signing on a free for the Gunners in 2001 and the England man has never been forgiven by Spurs supporters.

However, this precedent does not seem to have deterred 28-year-old Kaboul, who, according to the Daily Star, is keen to hook up with best friend Abou Diaby at the Emirates next season.

The Frenchman’s desire to play at the very top of the game seems unlikely to be fulfilled at White Hart Lane, with Spurs falling to 40/1 outsiders for a top four Premier League finish under new boss Tim Sherwood.

Arsenal, meanwhile, despite looking over their shoulder’s at Everton, look a safe bet at 1/7 to secure Champions League football for next term.

Thomas Vermaelen has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, with Barcelona keeping tabs on the Belgian as a replacement for the outgoing Carlos Puyol, and looks set to leave this summer.

This would leave the Gunners relatively short in central defence and though he has had injury concerns in the past, Kaboul has enough ability and Premier League experience to fill the void.

The fact that he would be available on a free would also appeal to the ever-shrewd Wenger and the Frenchman has proven he is willing to feel the wrath of Spurs fans already by singing Campbell all those years ago.

Spurs face Sunderland on Monday and go into the game as 4/9 favourites but with the club seemingly in a downward spiral and Kaboul able to cash in personally by being allowed to leave on a free it seems there is little the Lilywhites can do to halt his departure – whether it is to Arsenal or not.
