IPL Betting: KP can challenge Kholi in Top Runscorer market

Published:

The next chapter of Kevin Pietersen’s colourful career takes him to the IPL where he will skipper the Delhi Daredevils as they look to win a first title and Ladbrokes’ Oliver Day thinks he’s a good each-way bet in the Top Runscorer market.

Standing in his way is arguably the inform batsman in world cricket Virat Kolhi and Oliver gives his thoughts on whether Kholi can be stopped in the race for the Orange Cap.

On whether Virat Kholi can be beaten in the Top Runscorer market…

Oliver Day says: “It’s very hard to look past Virhat Kolhi at 5/1 in the top runscorer market after what he has done in the last 12 months in international cricket. He has put international bowlers to the sword all over the world and when he gets to the IPL he is going to be in a different league. Chris Gayle saves his best for the IPL but he is not showing enough form to inspire much confidence but the way I see it Kolhi is just so far ahead of the rest. He’ll bat at three, play every game and hecan cope in any sort of conditions which makes him the standout candidate.”

On whether pitch conditions will play a part in the competition for the Orange Cap…

OD says: Another bonus is the fact he plays for Bangalore which is the best wicket in India by far and that has to be calculated in when you look at the run markets. The likes of Warner, Finch and Dhawan all play in Hyderabad and that was not a good batting wicket last year. Along the same lines Mumbai is probably the second best pitch in the country and Rohit Sharma could go very well.

On whether KP will prove a point to England in this year’s IPL…

OD says: Kevin Pietersen looks a great price at 12/1 when you factor in he is here for the whole tournament and will bat at number three on a decent Delhi pitch. He doesn’t say he’s got something to prove but he’s KP, he will definitely want to show England what they are missing, especially after missing the T20 World Cup. There are certain players in the IPL that find it very easy to score big runs. There is a lot of poor bowling in the tournament and most of the time you will get eight overs of poor bowling from most of the sides and the guys like Kolhi, KP and Gayle have them for breakfast. We like Pietersen at the price and think he is a good each-way bet because he has the X-Factor!
