Pitbull’s World Cup song to set tempo for Brazil victory
Published:Brazil have called up a bevy of big names to provide the soundtrack to this summer’s World Cup and while the combination of J-Lo, Pitbull, Wyclef Jean, Santana and Avicii sounds like the weirdest five-a-side line-up ever, musically they remain very much on the ball.
This time around FIFA is pulling out all the stops to ensure the tournament is memorable for something more melodic than the incessant chorus of vuvuzelas that dominated South Africa in 2010, with an impressively compiled official album set to be released.
Leading the way on the 14-track long-player is “We Are One (Ole Ola)” the official song of the World Cup which has been written by Pitbull and features Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte.
Rumoured to be a casual Real Madrid fan (is there any other kind outside of the city?), J-Lo will be hoping the tune hits the chart heights reached by her Latin-inspired dance favourite “On The Floor”.
The other headline track sees Santana reteam with Wyclef Jean alongside Avicii and Alexandre Pires (no relation to Robert) for “Dar Um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)”.
Described as the official anthem of the World Cup, the need for two separate yet similarly official tracks ahead of the tournament remains unclear, though if it’s a choice of hearing that or Three Lions ’14, I’m all in favour.
The rest of the album is not too dissimilar to the current West Ham squad – littered with ageing stars and people you’ve never heard of.
These include France 98 anthem provider Ricky Martin as well as “Who Let The Dogs Out?” hitsters the Baha Men and, rather bizarrely, The Isley Brothers.
The headline or ‘Andy Carroll addition to the squad’ comes in the form of everyone’s favourite hip-shaking Latino star (sorry J-Lo) Shakira, with the imaginatively titled “La La La (Brasil 2014)”.
As a Colombian and girlfriend of Spaniard Gerard Pique, it’s likely she may have some divided loyalties at the tournament, but with this kind of banging tune behind them, it looks like Brazil are getting all the help they need to win and can be backed at 3/1 to win the World Cup.
