MotoGP betting: Marquez will be unfazed by Argentine test

The MotoGP calendar heads to Argentina for the first time in 14 years this weekend with the revamped Automdromo Termas de Rio Hondo circuit set to host proceedings.

And it’s one of motorcycling’s now familiar names who looks primed to take the inaugural event with current champion Marc Marquez just 8/13 to make it three wins from as many races this season.

Since arriving on the scene last term Repsol Honda rider Marquez has been a revelation, becoming the youngest ever top-class winner, and the Spaniard has wasted no time in laying down a marker for others to follow.

Marquez has already taken maximum points from both of the early rounds in Qatar and the USA with his hard Bridgestone rear tyre providing the platform for those recent successes.

While rival teams have been plagued by tyre problems, Marquez has been busy displaying the adaptability that forms a key part of his unique talent, with his trademark mixture of determination and guile likely to be showcased in South America.

It’s predicted that the nature of Argentina’s 4.8km circuit will result in some of the highest average speeds of the year with a combination of breakneck action and fast, long corners expected to take their toll on tyres.

Few have been able to keep up with the title holder and that may well be the case once again when the riders line-up for round three of the 2014 season.

Teammate Dani Pedrosa may be the best of the rest having finished as runner-up in Austin last time out and the 6/1 shot can go well again and exert pressure on his countryman.

Meanwhile, Movistar Yamaha pair Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo are also likely to have a say in the outcome of the race.

The former kept up with the frontrunners to finish second behind Marquez in Qatar with the 11/1 about the Italian’s chances representing fair value and the 6/4 on a podium finish a potential steal.

Lorenzo may not have enjoyed a fruitful campaign thus far but remains a top three contender with odds of 3/1 offered by Ladbrokes on the two-time champion breaking Marquez’s stranglehold and just 1/3 on him making the podium.
