Dortmund ace keen on Man United move, says Mario Gotze

Manchester United may have seen transfer target Toni Kroos edge further from their grip but David Moyes can take heart from comments coming elsewhere in Germany.

Kroos has been the main focal point for speculation regarding United’s rebuilding – with a transfer fee of £40m and wages of £260,000 per week reported – but noise surrounding the move has died down with Kroos seemingly intent on staying put at Bayern Munich.

Moyes need not mope about another missed target for too long though after Kroos’ team mate and former Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze claimed that Marco Reus is hell bent on moving to Old Trafford.

Dortmund star Reus starred in BVB’s 2-0 Champions League win over Real Madrid recently and is one of the most sought-after midfield talents in Europe.

However, according to Gotze his former colleague has eyes for only one club.

The Germany star is quoted by the Manchester Evening News as saying: “When I was at Borussia, Marco wanted a move to Manchester United. This hasn’t changed.”

The turn of events could be a blessing in disguise for Moyes as Reus is likely to cost less and come with lower salary expectations than his countryman Kroos.

Dortmund are bracing themselves for something of a player exodus at the end of the current campaign as manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to depart – with Barcelona his most likely destination.

With Robert Lewandowski on his way to Bayern and the vultures circling around Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic, Reus will be keen to make his own exit.

At 40/1 to reach the Premier League’s top four United are almost guaranteed to be out of Champions League competition next year and as such will struggle to compete for the top names.

Their best hope is for targets, like Robin van Persie before them, to listen to the “little boy screaming” inside them and Reus looks to certainly fit that bill.
