Chelsea’s double odds surely worth punt as Schurrle spot on

Published:

Thank goodness not every coach in the land is an advocate of the ‘double-bus park’ employed by Jose Mourinho at Anfield, but as Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle has stated: “Winning is what matters.”

Chelsea’s smash-and-grab victory against Liverpool was a pure masterclass in defending and closed the gap on the Premier League leaders to just two points with two matches remaining.

And while the Blues are still considered the 16/1 outsiders to win the title, the way this season has witnessed twists and turns throughout, this has to be one of the best bets available at these odds anywhere.

Chelsea is a club which has simply got used to winning and with Mourinho back at the helm that siege mentality is stronger than ever at Stamford Bridge.

German forward Schurrle, one of those able to keep Chelsea’s ultra-disciplined shape in that Anfield win, summed it up perfectly ahead of the club’s semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid.

“Winning is what matters. It’s the most important thing,” Schurrle, 23, said. “If people look at us and say ‘Chelsea can’t play’, even when we win, it’s just because they’re jealous.”

Label it what you will, but it’s that unbendable ability which sees them in a pretty strong position to qualify for a second Champions League final in three years when they entertain Atleti.

Having kept the La Liga leaders at bay in the Vicente Calderon, all the Blues have to do is win the home leg to progress – an outcome which can be backed at 13/10 with Ladbrokes.

If they do prevail, Mourinho’s men are almost certain to be labelled underdogs once more against one of either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, a position they will relish.

With this in mind, Ladbrokes’ industry-best odds of 66/1 for the double, feels like an awesome shot to nothing.
