Carlisle can jump from the breach in League One treble

Published:

The League One show is running out of dramatic acts with the automatic places all but determined and the play-off picture looking clearer than it has ever done. However, there are still enough teams with plenty of lines left to read and we have previewed three of the key clashes with a £10 treble paying out an impressive £216.56.

Wolves v Rotherham – To draw @ 5/2

Wolves finalised promotion back to the Championship last weekend and face a team who have also secured their only realistic target for the campaign.

Rotherham are a full 19 points clear of seventh placed Swindon and although everyone at the club will understandably be refusing to give up on a last ditch effort to make the final automatic place the eight points between themselves and Brentford will be too much to bridge.

As a result, it’s difficult to see how much motivation there will be from both sides and that could see the quality of the game suffer with a stalemate the most likely option.

Rotherham will of course want to maintain some momentum heading into the play-offs and Wolves will want to ensure they wrap up the title, however, anyone who has seen newly promoted Leicester in their last two games will know the impact of not having anything of the same worth to play for.

Their last two meetings have also finished all-square, albeit in contrasting fashion with this season’s 3-3 draw following a goalless 90 minutes when they met in the League Cup.

Carlisle to beat Walsall @ 7/4

There can often be an unhealthy temptation in football betting to pluck for teams who have everything to play for against those with seemingly no incentive, however, this selection is not without substance.

Carlisle are currently only separated from safety on goal difference and a win against Walsall would be a massive step towards safety.

Their opponents genuinely have nothing to play for with 11 points between them and the play-offs and although they have amassed 16 more points than their hosts they could be vulnerable to the sheer will of the home side.

Carlisle have only won once in their last 10, however, when inspecting their home form alone the reading is less desperate with no defeats in their last four at Brunton Park.

They got hammered away to play-off dwellers Preston on the road last time out but when it really mattered last time in front of their own fans they got the result required against Swindon.

Expect Graham Kavanagh’s men to do the same and inflict a third straight defeat on a Walsall team who already have several pairs of feet in sandals.

Peterborough to beat Bradford @ 5/4

Peterborough have a seven-point cushion in sixth place and look nailed on to give themselves even more breathing space away to Bradford.

Darren Ferguson has got his side back on the winning trail just at the right time with four wins from their last five and they face a side who are looking like they have ran out of steam.

Bradford supporters could be forgiven for wishing the season would have ended last week with their team playing out two goalless draws from their last two outings and their position of 13th in the table reflects their current mindset.

Posh won the reverse fixture this term and although it’s unlikely Bradford will be blown away in front of their home fans it would be a surprise if they put up too much resistance against a side still fully focused.
