Big weekend winners Chelsea screaming value to land the title

Published:

Given the way this enthralling Premier League title race has ebbed and flowed all season it’s been no surprise to see the main protagonists’ prices fluctuate accordingly. What is surprising, though, is Chelsea’s amazing price to win it after the latest round of fixtures.

This would not be the first time we have flagged up the potential value lurking in Chelsea’s price to win the Premier League, but it’s very hard not to when the Blues are just two points behind Liverpool with the Reds still to play.

Following a crucial victory over Manchester City at Anfield, Liverpool are favourites to win the title for the first time this season at 8/11.

Manuel Pellegrini’s defeated charges, now seven points adrift are deemed a 21/20 chance, but it’s second-place Chelsea, fresh from overcoming Swansea at the Liberty, who are given big outsider status at 9/2.

Much of the reason for this hefty price must be attributed to the fact that Jose Mourinho’s side can still be overtaken by City by a point, should both teams record wins until the end of the season as the gap is currently five points.

However, in the crazy world of the run-in, there really is no substitute for having points on the board, especially as City still have to face particularly tricky trips to face Everton and also Crystal Palace.

Similarly, Liverpool also travel to Selhurst Park before the end of the season, where both Chelsea and Aston Villa have come a cropper recently as Tony Pulis has created a real siege mentality.

The Champions League semi-finals may have a bearing on Chelsea’s generous price also, but the fact they have a chance to leapfrog Liverpool with victory cannot be underestimated – especially after the clinical job they did on City at the Etihad.

Furthermore, Mourinho is the only manager of the trio to have the experience of this position in the Premier League and will pull out all the stops and tricks to get over the line.
