Big guns Rizeena and Toormore on course for Guineas weekend

Published:

There are no signs of any excuses being prepared by two of the main camps with trainers of both Rizeena and Toormore unmistakably bullish with Guineas weekend less than a fortnight away.

Richard Hannon Jnr has had plenty of practice talking up previous Guineas chances with Toronado and Sky Lantern last season and he is clearly not about to fly under the radar with their main hope.

Hannon, who watched Toormore, 7/1 for the 2000 Guineas, extend his unbeaten sequence to four wins in pleasing style in last week’s Craven Stakes said: “He goes on any ground and it makes no difference if he sits in behind or is up there forcing it. He has a massive chance.

Kingman was very impressive at Newbury, but everything went his way…” he added.

The newly appointed name above the Herridge Stables door was also refusing to rule out the chances of his other intended runners Night Of Thunder (25/1) and Shifting Power (33/1), the latter finishing best of the rest behind the new ante-post favourite in the Greenham by saying: “…there is every chance Night Of Thunder will finish an awful lot closer to him. He’ll be better over a mile and won’t be pulling like he was in the Greenham. We think he’s very good.

“Shifting Power is a dark horse who will also be much more suited to a mile and to a race in which they go a lot quicker. There’s something a little out of the ordinary with him.”

Trainer of 7/2 1000 Guineas favourite Rizeena, Clive Brittain has also sent a glowing report following his filly’s latest workout at Newmarket with connections saying their daughter of Moyglare victor is “very much on song for the race”.

Brittain is no stranger to success in the contest having captured the prize with the outstanding Pebbles (1984) and Sayyedati (1993).
