Bayern to thwart Premier League clubs chasing Newcastle ace

A host of top Premier League clubs are set to see their hopes of landing Newcastle striker Loic Remy dashed after German giants Bayern Munich entered the race to sign the France international.

The Magpies had held hopes of making the forward’s loan deal from QPR a permanent transfer this summer but their woeful form in recent weeks has left the 27-year-old seeking a move elsewhere.

Newcastle have now lost six Premier League games in a row and despite some potential respite against Cardiff this weekend – where they are priced at 10/11 to take maximum points – Remy has seen enough to conclude that his future lies elsewhere.

The striker is looking to leave QPR whether their play-off campaign ends in success or not and with Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton keen on acquiring his services the Frenchman is not short of options.

However, a Premier League stay is looking increasingly unlikely with Bayern able to match the striker’s desire to play for “one of the top five clubs in Europe”.

Bayern wrapped up the Bundesliga in record time this season and could secure a league and cup double with victory over Borussia Dortmund but failure to score in both legs of their Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid has left manager Pep Guardiola searching for attacking reinforcements.

A deal for Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski has already been agreed but with Mario Mandzukic set to be sold and Cluadio Pizzaro due to retire this summer Remy has emerged as a top target.

A transfer fee of £15m has been mooted and while this is unlikely to put off the Premier League clubs chasing his signature the lure of higher wages and a greater chance of domestic and European success is likely to see the former Lyon, Nice and Marseille ace opt for the Allianz Arena.
