Former Atletico star Torres gets the Ladbrokes price boost treatment

Former Ateltico Madrid hero Fernando Torres heads back to the Vincente Calderon with Chelsea for tonight’s Champions League semi-final first leg as the subject of yet another Ladbrokes price boost.

The Spanish international, who scored 82 goals in 214 appearances for Los Rojiblancos, is now 9/1 from 7/1 with the bookmaker to score the first goal of the game in the Spanish capital.

And with Samuel Eto’o out of the last-four clash Torres, who is an Atletico supporter, is being backed by Blues manager Jose Mourinho to put in a strong performance against the La Liga leaders.

“The minutes he is on the pitch he is going to try everything for Chelsea, like the professional he is,” said Mourinho.

“We talk about Spanish football and he’s a big Atletico supporter, but he’s a professional.”

Ladbrokes customers will be hoping the former Atletico captain can continue his fine record of scoring first this season after netting the first goal of a game on six of the eight occasions he has found the net for the Blues this term.

The Spaniard, who has scored nine goals so far this season, has found the net first on three occasions in the Premier League during the current campaign.

But it’s in Europe where Torres has really thrived this term, striking the opening salvo in three out of his last four starts in continental competition for the Pensioners.

The 30-year-old, who has fired three goals in three Champions League starts, grabbed the opener in the away leg of the west Londoners’ Champions League last 16 tie against Galatasaray and also against Schalke at the Veltins-Arena in the group stage of the competition.

He was also the first goalscorer in Chelsea’s European Super Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Bayern Munich back in August and those backing the Spanish star will be hoping he can make it four from five starts in Europe this term when he takes the field against his former club for the first time.
