Arsenal in for Rodriguez means Burnley may get pilfered again
Arsenal’s dire need to add to their striking stocks this summer could inadvertently rob Premier League hopefuls Burnley of yet another goal-scoring sensation.
The latest whispers circulating on the World Wide Web suggest Jay Rodriguez has become a principal target for Arsenal in the summer.
Despite the Southampton goal-grabber facing six months out on the sidelines with a busted knee, it appears Arsene Wenger is willing to gamble on JRod who has clocked up a mightily impressive tally of 15 Premier League goals this term.
As it stands, Arsenal, who face a struggle to hold onto fourth at odds of 1/2, have been found wanting badly in the striker department – where Olivier Giroud remains their heavily overused option on 13 league goals for the season.
Therefore it’s unsurprising that Wenger would wish to call on the services of Rodriguez, who was not only in-line for a possible World Cup place for England, but has outscored anyone in his current squad without being the central striker at St Mary’s.
While this could yet prove a great acquisition for the Londoners should Rodriguez’s recovery go smoothly, it could have a domino effect on his hometown club, where he first attracted the attention of the Saints’ scouts.
Rodriguez had netted 24 goals in all competitions for the Clarets before jumping up a division with Southampton and now the rumour mill suggests his current employers could go back to raid Burnley once again.
The Lancashire club did brilliantly to replace JRod with Bournemouth striker Danny Ings, who has gone on to plunder 25 goals in a stellar campaign which has led Burnley to the cusp of a top-flight return.
However, if Southampton are robbed of Rodriguez by Arsenal, then their next port of call will be trying to prise 22-year-old Ings away from Turf Moor.
